If only Sprint would include this for free with all plans, it would be a nice little perk. As it stands now, you're better off using one of the many free apps out there.

I agree. A little lame that they still want to charge for this, especially since there are so many good apps out there that do essentially the same thing for free.

I personally use Zello.

Have you tried out the send your voice feature thing in iMessage. I find it convenient when I don't feel like texting.

It's basically a walkie talkie with an extraordinarily annoying chirp. It's offered on some feature phones (the Dura series from Kyocera), built in to a couple of Android devices (Torque and the TorqueXT), and is available as a stand alone app for most newer Android devices.

I miss it too! It was great when you were in the store shopping and looking for someone else after you split up.

Yeah, if you got split up, you would just keep listening for the extraordinarily annoying chirps heard across five store aisles, and the two of you would find your way back together.  Kind of like a homing beacon.

No, no, no, most of the rest of us do not miss Direct Connect at all.  Uncouth people wandering a store while talking on the phone are bad enough, but having a half duplex speakerphone conversation punctuated by repeated chirps was beyond the pale.
