Install Good Lock. It brings some refreshing changes to the notifications and app manager drawer.

From the Galaxy app store? It says it's not compatible with my (s5) device.

I downloaded the apk from a third party. It installed and then the phone reboot with the new notification drawer. It worked fine and it even got rid of the annoying Sprint name that was added on the upper left corner. :)

Let me know if you need me to upload the copy I used.

Good lock looks really interesting. It's not working on my s5 tho. I can't get apps to run just the notification shade ui works. None of the buttons work. No home screen. Just blank wallpaper. Might install on my s7 tho.

Why not?

I have two S-5's.  Updating to MM caused a very definite degradation in several ways. LTE drops totally at spots where it only got weak before and slowed down.  Once the LTE drops, it is slow to return even if you move to a strong area. Phone is just generally slower all around.   Occasionally it is almost impossible to answer an incoming 1X call. Phone just does not respond to an attempt to answer the call. I wish I had refused the update.  Sad how I had a perfectly working phone and they trashed it with the update.

That's Samsung always ruining their phones with the last update. It happened to the S3, and now it looks like it is happening with the S5 now that it has reached the end of life support. It's almost as if Samsung is pushing consumers to buy a new phone...almost!

(P.S., the PCA marshmallow update actually made the phone very enjoyable. But from the looks of it, the latest one ruins the phone.)

Has anyone had any more recent experience with the latest GS5 update?  My phone keeps threatening me with the update, but I have successfully fought it off so far.

Should I update?  Should I not update?  Should I do like my daughter and get my GS5 stolen, so I won't need to worry about it?  (BTW, Sprint refuses to brick stolen phones. Bah!)

Thanks in advance.

The first update to MM degraded my S5 in several ways. I saw nothing positive at all.   Just two days ago, some other update was presented to me. I was not sure what it was, but my thoughts were that it might fix some of the issues the original MM update inserted.    I am STILL dropping LTE at weak spots that never dropped prior to the MM update.

Android Device Manager -> wipe the device remotely.

The S5 update corrupted my daughter's movie SD card immediately after update. So if you are going to update, maybe pull the SD card first. Might not be everyone's experience.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
