iPhone Initial Setup- Carrier Selection?

So had my iPhone 5 replaced under warranty at the Apple store, walked in...in two minutes signed a work order on iPad and walked out with a brand new out of box iPhone. Wasn't activated yet but when I booted it up it gave me a selection of different CDMA carriers...Sprint and Verizon were in a bullet by themselves and then it had a list of regional carriers. Said the selection you make cannot be reversed. I have never seen this boot up screen before!

They should have completed the setup with you.

Hm. I always wonder about claims of Apple giving out phones new-in-box for warranty claims. If you box and shrinkwrap a reconditioned device, it'll definitely look new...

Unfortunately once you select the carrier you're activating it on you can't go back and change your selection.

 

I don't care if its refurb, it's new to me. But it was definitely out of the box.
