Samsung Galaxy S3 issues (toggling airplane to get LTE)

Hey guys, I am trying to see if anyone is having a same issue as me. LTE just came to my area and I will be standing in a spot that has LTE doing speed tests. It will toggle me back to 3G, and then I will have to toggle airplane mode to get back to LTE. Has anyone has a similar problem, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Also, another thing I noticed while doing speedtests, my phone showed that I was on 3G, but when I looked at the results of the speed test, it showed me as being on LTE.. I am rooted running the FreeGS3 ROM. I am not sure if this may be the issue or not. I know that EVO LTE's seemed to have this issue in the past, but I have NEVER seen or heard of someone having the issue with the S3 (and yes, I did google around)

Also since you are on that wonderful FreeGS3 ROM (being sarcastic), we had a member in the NOLA market do an entire day of 4G mapping only to have absolutely ZERO of his points show up on Sensorly. It seems the Dev of this ROM thought it would be cute to change the network name so Sensorly throws all the points to the curb instead of putting them on the map.

So before you map anything with Sensorly please make sure it goes up on the map before spending time mapping your area out.

Yeah, I notice this. I mapped my neighbor hood out and it didnt show =/ but mapped SCC and it showed. So not sure if someone else mapped it. I love this ROM but may have to switch to another one =/

I'm having this issue on my S3 also. Airplane mode seems to solve it sometimes, but more often than not, I have to restart the phone. I'll be standing underneath a LTE tower and be reading 3G. The "LTE Enginerring" (sic) debug screen will show -119db, or wherever the last signal was when it faded out (coverage is spotty in Detroit at this time). I can't figure it out for the life of me.

I know the latest update for the Note2 changed the scan to 5 minutes, probably the same the S3. But I know that interval is not entirely true as I've seen the phone pick up LTE in the almost the same place several times.

In the debug screen, what shows for the MCC MNC when it is "stuck"? 000's?

    • I posted this in the Nebraska Premier thread last week, but just wanted to share in this thread the progress that T-Mobile has made in filling in the great coverage gap known as Nebraska. Between late last year and this year, they have added 28 new expansion sites filling in the coverage hole, plus 11 Sprint site conversions in eastern Nebraska and far western Iowa. Notably, in the last month n41 coverage was added on over a dozen expansion sites in western Nebraska that were added to the network last year. For comparison, here is the very first map that I created in October of 2022 after we noted expansion sites outside of Sprint conversion in Lincoln and Omaha. It doesn't show any western parts of the state, but just know there was nothing besides roaming coverage and a little B12 coverage leaking down from South Dakota to the west of Valentine, NE.
    • Sent a copy of my DB in an e-mail just now.  Couldn't leave the house today but can hopefully get a screenshot when I'm out on another cell site tomorrow.
    • 76MB Google Play System update after that, bringing the date up to 3/1 from prior 2/1 date.
    • April security patch is already out - 738.30 MB download.
    • What do you see with the latest alpha/ beta version?
