You can use Elixir app which can be downloaded from the market, or as mentioned already you can get the msl code and do it that way.

You can also download the 4G Toggle app and then change the drop down to radio info. Scoll down and there is a down arrow on the right side of the screen. It will give you multiple radio options including LTE Only.

 

If you don't want to download the app, you can enter *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer and then select phone info. It will do the same thing and you don't need MSL code.

Maybe the Evo is just a little shy and when it is around other devices it doesn't like to show off. I'm going with that.

You have to go into the internal menus that require a numeric code to be entered in the dialer.

 

Better yet, use Any Cut to create a home screen shortcut directly to the native Testing.apk. That obviates the need to use the dialer code each time. You can see that I have also done so for the FieldTrial.apk, as ready access to good engineering screens is my #1 requirement in any handset that I use.

I've been trying this since the OTA update and it has not worked for me at all. it will let you change the rdios on and off, but i have had no success with the LTE only mode in areas where it would work without issue.I have tried it with optimizer on and off, power saver on and off, so i'm not sure if it is my phone or if it is something that they have disallowed.

I set it and connected all the way home from the bar! :D

You may need to take themuffinman advice and start from scratch.

I like my EVO LTE much better now that it has the radio updates that came with Jelly Bean. I was seriously considering trading it in on an S3 but glad I didn't. I works great for me. I have a stock ROM.

What makes you think that there were any radio updates that came with Jelly Bean?

I can't say there were radio updates, but the lte radio editing is something i had done on my own with similar numbers for lte timer and BSR timer and I would have to constantly switch airplane mode. I haven't had to touch airplane mode since the update and even the *#*#info#*#* hasn't had to be used to push the lte signal, so something had to have been done with the priority of the radios and the strength.

 

As i'm not a CompE or EE, i can say it seems as though something was rewritten or at least reorganized to attain the functions of better lte connection. This is with and without optimizer on.

HTC probably probably lowered the lte timeout number from 30 seconds to something lower like 5 seconds. simple fix for them

Taken the wrong way. Poster said it was a simple fix and HTC just lowered a setting. I should have said, the change was much more than that. Changes were done in the modem code itself as well.

Any new version is gonna have a new baseband aka radio install with the update. The ics radio is different from jb

Maybe that's why it took so long for the update to come out vs the gs3. i'd rather have a new baseband and have to deal with the powersaver mode for now. lol

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.

      At some point over the weekend, T-Mobile bumped the Omaha metro from 100+40 to 100+90 of n41! That's a pretty large increase from what we had just a few weeks ago when we were sitting at 80+40Mhz. Out of curiosity, tested a site on my way to work and pulled 1.4Gpbs. That's the fastest I've ever gotten on T-Mobile! For those that know Omaha, this was on Dodge street in Midtown so not exactly a quiet area!

      Drove out into the country today.  Dish stuck to my phone like glue. At least -120 rsrp. Likely only good for phone calls (should have tested.) It then switched to T-Mobile. Getting back on Dish was another issue. I am used to dragging out coverage so I expected a few miles, but had to drive at least 10 miles towards a Dish site. Airplane mode, which worked for Sprint, did nothing. Rebooting did nothing. Finally got it to change over about 2 miles from the site by manually setting the carrier to Dish then it had great reception. Sprint used to have a 15 minute timeout but I did not have the patience today.  Previously I did a speed test on Dish out in the country at the edge of Dish coverage. My speeds were 2g variety. Dish has really overclocked some of these sites. Seen rssp readings in the 50s. Would have called them boomer sites with Sprint but much  more common with Dish.
