Sprint 4G Rollout Updates
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 - 11:12 AM MDT

I just received information from a very reliable internal Sprint source that there is a delay occurring with the shipments of the EVO LTE pre-orders. According to the source, the delay is being caused by HTC and may impact shipments going out as late as May 25th. This may be the cause of the EVO LTE pre-order statuses being changed yesterday for many customers to "back-ordered."

What is not clear yet at this time, if this affects all the pre-orders, or some of the pre-orders. It may be related to the quantities that Sprint will receive from HTC and when. We will bring you more information as we learn it.

UPDATE 11:40 AM MDT: The source believes this will delay the launch to be as late as May 25th. Therefore, it affects stores and third parties as well. Will update with more info as we learn it.

UPDATE 6:41 PM: The source of the delay is customs due to alleged infringements of Apple patents. S4GRU article here: http://s4gru.com/ind...firmed-delayed/

Wow so this means that folks who pre-ordered are actually getting it later than those who go in the store on May 18th? Wow this sucks.

Will this affect best buy and amazon pre-orders as well or just sprint?

It's assumed this affects product deliveries to stores and third parties as well. But I am awaiting more information. The source said that a software issue may be the cause. A glitch, perhaps?

Software issues may be the cause of delays? Well, I have to wait until the end of the month anyway to get this phone. If true, hopefully they can fix whatever the problem is.

I wonder how long ago did Sprint know about this?

If it is the same issue as we reported here, then it has been quite awhile. But the exact cause of the reported delay is not yet known.

Sprint probably looked at all their pre-orders and said "Damn, I think we F'd up." I think the demand is more than they anticipated which is really saying a lot about how successful this phone will be. Or they figured "hey lets do a pre-order so we can take the customers money and make it seem like we will ship it out early only to then inform the customer that it will be late." Now they are sitting on a few million dollars collecting interest at the customers expense.

It looks like some preorders from Sprint are shipping today. Unfortunately, I canceled my Sprint order and ordered from Wirefly...http://forums.androi...s-first-11.html

No one has posted a screen shot confirming this. Also, using the UPS tracking by reference as noted did not produce any results for me. Anyone else able to verify shipping?

My order status just went back to the "...you're once step closer" message.

If I don't get tracking info by Thursday night I'll go to the Sprint store Friday morning and get one, then refuse the shipment when it comes.

Mine hasn't gone to backorder status yet. I ordered the afternoon of the 18th from the business portal. Don't know if that has any effect.

I need to let Radioshack know that they will need security if they dont have my phone on Friday.

I'm sure RadioShack would love to give you one on Friday. If they can't, it's certainly out of their hands.

My order just changed to this, "Thank you for pre-ordering the EVO LTE. We will do our best to get it to you on or before the national launch. You can continue to check status of your order on www.sprint.com/myorder"

Hi Robert,

I think that we all hope that the launch delay doesn't come to pass.

If not, I just want to chime in that no one bats a thousand and that I think it won't impugn the integrity of you or s4gru.com at all.

I think that this is a great site, I enjoy the updates and members here and I am honored to be allowed to post.

Probably, this didn't need saying, everyone feels the same and I am just being the noob. But it's how I feel about it, so there it is.

Cheers,

Early

Regardless of the usability of LTE, i'd much rather listen to people complain about a delayed launch than complain about devices not working right. The whining across the blogs will be deafening if more than a few users experience software issues in the beginning.
