S4GRU has recently been apprised of some additional Network Vision information.  As you may recall, when Sprint originally announced Network Vision details and explained their change to LTE for its 4G technology, Sprint also said that planning/design/permitting is under way at the first 22,000 sites.  S4GRU was able to obtain the information about these first 22,000 sites last Spring and we have received several updates since. Now we have planning information on the first 24,000 sites.

In perusing the last update we received, we noticed a new market that we have not discussed before.  That is West Kentucky.  So now it appears that Louisville and the West Kentucky market are making a play for an earlier start.

West Kentucky

The West Kentucky market is included in Sprint's initial 24,000 sites planning.  However, in a cross check with the NV schedule, this market has all its dates as "TBD."  It's quite possible since all the planning and permitting for this market will be done in advance, it may actually be moved up to the end of the second round.  

I would interpret that TBD means that they are finalizing the Network Vision schedule for this market.  We cannot say with any certainty at this time.  This should be seen as good news though for the folks living in the West Kentucky market.

So Kentucky could be on the list as a potential late 2nd round market just like Phoenix, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Missouri, Milwaukee?

Thank goodness for the semi-scheduling of this market. It will be nice to finally be rid of Ubiquitel equipment.

Wow, this is part of the southern Indiana market which puts all of Indiana markets in the second round. For a neglected state i am impressed!!

I live in Louisville, and we need these upgrades horribly. Service here has always been subpar with Sprint, but now even with 5 bars data is useless.

St. Louis's network barely even functions at the moment. I can't foresee LTE going live this year for us.

2 things:

1. WHEN is the "Second phase" anyway?

2. We DO have 4G access in Louisville. If you go stand on the steps of the Arts center (across the St. from Humana) and hold your phone... Just so... you get a pretty good 4G connection. They (Sprint) placed a grand total of 1 tower up... last one that went up before sprint pulled the plug.... We were SOOOOOOO close :)

The second round of Network Vision has market deployment starts from July 2012 through roughly January 2013. The third round has market starts from February 2013 through July 2013. Fourth round has market starts from August 2013 through January 2014.

There are actually two 4G WiMax sites in Louisville. See the map below for tower locations. These are Protection Sites and were not part of an actual market deployment. You can read more about what a Protection Site is following this link: http://s4gru.com/ind...otection-sites/

You mean maybe my points again and again to them were heard? Sprint's main warehouse is in Louisville. Also the National UPS hub. Not to have 4 G here would be stupid. And more than once a year politicians and celebreties come here. We even have a special branch of the Secret Service here for it. About time they listen.

Finally some good news. I have been seriously considering jumping ship and going to AT&T. 3G speeds are a joke in Jeffersontown area of Louisville. You can forget any kind of video playback/streaming anything in that area. My friend can consistently pull 12mbps through AT&T 4g.

Yea getting 4G would be amazing. So where is the tower? By Humana bulding I assume You mean the Corperate tower. I work for the but Waterside building.

I hope this happens. I am sick of being a joke on a budget phone plan with sub standard service. We are in a major town with Sprint's major wharehouse and distribution because UPS main hub and corp is here. Shaeking my head.

They can't start soon enough as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully by the end of this year or first of next year there will be signs of LTE. Another area around here that you would think would have decent coverage would be Sparta KY at Kentucky Speedway. I mean, Sprint is the main sponsor of the Sprint Cup series, you would think they would at least have decent coverage around tracks that the Cup series races on. Even early in the morning before a lot of fans got there still keep having dropped calls. Couldn't upload a picture to save my life. Stuck on 1x all day. Lets see a LTE progress for the bluegrass state.

The two sites live in Louisville are 4G WiMax sites, not 4G LTE sites. They are shown in the Map I posted in the comments above.

Sprint will begin LTE deployment in the West Kentucky market this Winter. This will include Louisville.
