It is odd how LI got screwed over by Sprint.. WIMAX only made it to the western edges of Nassau County and now a year or so to get LTE... When I had my EVO, I was getting decent 4G is parts of Queens but once into Nassau, it vanished.. But it looks like it'll be there eventually... It seems like Sprint LTE will get to where I live earlier than where I visit..

They definitely didn't get priority in WiMax. However, being in the second round of NV, I certainly wouldn't categorize them as screwed this time. I think Long Island is getting fair placement, IMO.

Let me give you some background info. The deployment speed is not determined based on some guy in Overland Park who deems some markets worthy of being deployed faster than others. The biggest factor in market deployment speed is the backhaul being installed ahead of Network Vision.

In the instance of Long Island, the schedule completes around September 2013. And since backhaul runs about 45 days ahead of a site being complete, we know that backhaul work will be complete in the market around August 1st. So backhaul deployment will run approximately from November 2012 - July 2013.

So there are two choices here. Sprint can hold off starting NV deployment in Long Island when there is enough backhaul deployed where they can produce 40 sites per month...or, they can get started right away behind the backhaul crews and deploy 25 sites per month.

With the slower production rate, right behind deployment crews, they can get sites coming online sooner. Customers want to see progress. Even at 25 sites per month, approximately 6 sites are going live every week. If they wait until they can produce 40 sites per month, they will not start the market until March.

I think customers would rather they start in November, than to start in March. Since the finish date is going to be the same either way.

3G improvements will still occur over the market in advance of Network Vision. These can be tracked at network.sprint.com

Same info. Work will start in the market this December and launch some time in the Spring.

Interesting map; more people live in Suffolk County (appx 1.5 million) than Nassau (1.34 million), yet Nassau is getting about twice as many installations as Suffolk.

There about 3 dozen sites converted all the way across the island past the Hamptons. However, LI is an Alcatel Lucent market. A/L starts their market upgrades with the 3G side first, and after they get about 30% of the market complete, they start bringing online the LTE side too. It is probably another 30-45 days until the first LTE sites start firing up on LI. Ericsson and Samsung markets are handled differently.
