Sprint 4G Rollout Updates
Thursday, May 17, 2012 - 12:06 PM MDT

It appears Sprint is moving forward with a revised launch date of the EVO LTE on Wednesday, May 23rd. Our source yesterday said that Sprint was working toward the 23rd. The blog Inside Sprint Now is reporting that the 23rd appears to be a go.

In an e-mail to one of our Sprint sources for more information, he did confirm that May 23rd is being said internally, but he has no details about the specifics of the authorizations from Customs or the supply chain. We will release more details with updated information about the EVO LTE deliveries as we know more. However, S4GRU Members who purchased from Best Buy are starting to get updates about a May 23rd delivery. Fingers crossed...

UPDATE 12:30 PM MDT: Inside Sprint Now is reporting that they are working on shipping pre-orders earlier to arrive prior to the revised launch date of May 23rd. Our source was unable to confirm that at the time of this update.

This is so crazy as Sprint still hasn't sent one email to their customers yet?! Best Buy sent one this morning letting them know that it changed to the 23rd. Sprint should expect to be bombarded with hate mail but I have no comment on that matter, lol.

5th :(

Sprint used to be criticized about giving information too early, that it wasn't accurate and had to be changed. I think Sprint now has gone to the other end of the spectrum and is now too cautious and waits until too many details are worked out.

I wonder if there are any stores out there that may have actually gotten a few units to sell. I called a sprint store an hour ago and the dude told me that they may have a few for tomorrow, naturally I have my doubts but I guess it won't hurt to call them first thing in the morning. Anyone else called their local sprint stores to ask?

As one who has worked in service environment I've learned that you will never be able to satisfy a certain percentage of your customers. If Sprint sent out an email saying that 5/23 was likely to be the new release date and something else happened customers would be up in arms. I think Sprint is doing the right thing. Shoot folks an email once the device actually ships. Until then just stick by the earlier statement of "as soon as we possibly can".

Anyone hear anything about pre-orders from wirefly? I assume they will be in a similar situation to BB as a third-party pre-orderer. Hate to assume anything though at this point.

I just tried the online chat with Wirefly and they gave me the following:

Salman : We are waiting for the device "HTC EVO 4G LTE" to be launched. So, we will process the order further on priority basis once we have the device in stock.

I think you'll get conflicting information depending on whatever rep you talk to. For kicks I tried about 5 minutes prior and a different rep told me the 18th was the launch date and the same 2-3 week line that people were getting before the whole customs thing went down.

Just like other retailers, it takes a while for the info to trickle down and some CSR's know more than others.

Just got an email from Sprint saying that phones are held up in customs and that they will provide more information as available. No mention of a May 23rd date.

Sprint is getting screwed hard by Apple. Frankly Sprint is probably still bent over the table with eyes the size of half dollars.

I to have my new phone behing held hostage; but I am not angry with Sprint. I sure as heck would like to make some Apple sauce though. Apple is not a good company, and it's founder was not a good man. This is just but the start.

What goes around comes around, apple is gonna have a whole lot of bad karma coming their way soon enough.

Well my preorder payment of 213.99 had been showing as a negative balance on my account, and is now gone. No update on shipping on the order status, but at least something has changed. The account statement shows: HTC X325C BAR PHONE $213.99

Maybe I'm just overly hopeful. My bill cycle just came past, and my latest monthly bill is also posted. So, perhaps it was just that...

So can we agree to absolve Sprint from the charge of being poor communicators and file this one under "Not wanting to count their chickens before they hatch?"

Funny though... Not nearly as much blowback when Best Buy gets the pre-ordering process wrong than if Sprint was the offender....

That's because Best Buy is only acting on the info from Sprint, they (BB) don't have anything to do with setting the release date, nor (I'm assuming) were they aware of the possible delays.

The only knock on Sprint has been the lack of communication. No one is really mad at them for the situation.

lol you should read some of the threads in the sprint forums.

Lots of people so outraged at sprint, I started a thread thats titled

"So you pre order a phone with no known shipping date and now your mad its delayed!"

Just to see what kind of response I got from taking a positive view of the situation, well the response was less than positive lol.

I mean towards sprint that is

Well, I can't speak for the screaming masses on the Sprint site, only from my experiences here with the calmer, clearer heads in this particular site.

Yesterday there was info flying around everywhere concerning the evolte and the launch delay. Today not even a whisper. What has changed? Has everyone just given up and dont care anymore? Or is this launch just dead in the water not to happen until possibly August?

By the way this is a great site. Thanks for all the useful info.

New info and we should all be getting the phones soon!

http://insidesprintnow.wordpress.com/2012/05/20/htc-evo-4g-lte-cleared-by-customs/

http://taipeitimes.com/News/biz/archives/2012/05/21/2003533313

It would appear that customs has cleared the HTC EVO 4G LTE. According to the TaiPei Times:

“In a twist to the US’ import ban on various HTC Corp (宏達電) smartphones, the company yesterday said some of its products blocked by US customs because of patent-infringement concerns had been allowed to enter the US market after passing the customs’ review.”

I have not seen anything internally yet as far as shipping dates, but I would expect to have that info either later tonight or super early in the morning. I do know there were several plans drafted based on when they would be cleared, so I’ll get that info and match it up and see where we’re at. Hang tight, it’s going to be a fast paced next 24 hours! :) And who knew customs worked on the weekend for commercial stuff!

Thanks to about 200 people that sent me this article! I was out at brunch and having drinks with some friends on a lazy day, and had no expectations of anything breaking today :) At least now I’ve got some snooping to do.

It’s about time as to this day I have not received one word of info from Sprint themselves! I was told when I ordered I would receive my phone on or before May 18th and I have received no phone calls, emails or text messages about any delay. Sprint really blew this ordeal. I’m happy that there will finally be movement on my phone as they have had my money for almost two weeks now!

Enjoy,

5th :)
