Sure wish SoftBank would get in on some lowband spectrum action.

Att bought the 600 mhz in my area so that would be great. Tho it's only 5x5.

I wasn’t even aware Tmo would roll out 5g first in 600! You’re right it could be huge for them.  I see everyone trying to get the high band for capacity so I was under the impression it would a must have for 5g. Low band would be the fall back

Yup Mr. Legere mentioned it in a youtube video after the quiet period and the official 600 MHz auction results were announced back in May.  So I would imagine the markets with 10x10 MHz that 5G will be rolled out in a 5x5 block and 5x5 block will be 4G LTE. https://www.fiercewireless.com/5g/t-mobile-to-roll-out-5g-over-600-mhz-and-other-spectrum

Listen at the 2:10 mark.

i have mixed feelings about what I am saying but I think 600 is waaaaaay overrated. Yes it helps with coverage but it is clear the future is automated. Cars, refrigerators, phones, tablets Alexa and so forth. For this massive amount of data that will only continue to grow where does 600 fit if it has capacity setbacks? With cable in the mix the future will be small cell located at every street light/corner.

I think Tmo mistake may have been to purchase the 600, they are clearly going for coverage to get themselves the same credibility as att/vzw.

This may be a long term mistake as everyone is moving up.  Or it may work out for them long term, short term I don’t see any benefit of 600 with everyone racing to get 5g out. Maybe I am missing something

I think it is definitely needed for rural areas for what you explain, as for urban environments, deployed as needed and set as a last priority connection only for deep inside buildings, etc.

I still don't see a really convincing business case for 5G. The only benefit I see is lower latency. With LAA on 5GHz and CBRS being opened up the need for capacity will be quenched for a long time. Not to mention Massive MIMO, 256QAM, etc.

But obviously the CBRS.. is in the millimeter wave range so the 600 megahertz band would be used for coverage.

CBRS is 3.5-6GHz Dan. Millimeter is much higher.
Ok my bad...but still though...the CBRS band is much higher... obviously not as high as millimeter wave...but in my opinion the 600 MHZ band can be used as a backup if you are out of reach of the regular 3.5-6GHZ band.

    • Unable to confirm if it's really off but I noticed this morning that I'm no longer connecting to Band 41 on my home site. Switching my phone to LTE-only pretty much always put me on Band 41 since it was the least used band on T-Mobile's network. Now I'm only able to connect to Band 2/66. Not complaining because it means speeds are faster on LTE and maybe 150MHz n41 is around the corner.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
