Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge User Thread

Recommended Posts

It seems the recently released updates for T-Mobile and Verizon are more than just the security flash..  300MB and Verizon lists a number of fixes (but some seem carrier related).  So far a few users on reddit are saying positive things.

New update this morning. States only security but is larger than normal.. So may include some fixes other carriers have noted.2f28813160c5536a79c4bbe39ed71ef9.jpg

I was really hoping this included the LTE calling beta, but it does not. Maybe next time.

Has anyone else noticed that, since the latest update,  their GS7/GS7 Edge screen randomly "flashes", and then seems to revert back to what was on display 3 or 4 seconds before the "flash"?

No, I have not noticed any screen "flashes."  But I have been occupied by these random epileptic seizures that I started experiencing lately.

Awesome to hear, that's why I never went to the S7 or S7 Edge it just wasn't worth it, both performance and feature wise my Note 5 stays right with the 7 series. But the 8 I would hope is a lot better, maybe I'll go check it out soon I am getting that itch, and plus I never use the spen anyway lol. How are you liking the battery life of the +? better than the S7 Edge?

Edit - Well the temptation got to me, just put in my order for the S8+, it will be here tomorrow. Good deal online no activation fee so it was $82.24 out the door, also ordered a case on Amazon for $15 which will be here tomorrow as well. Not a bad $100 spent. :D

$82 out the door from Sprint?   Lease?  Legacy plan upgrade?

I think I finally figured out a big part of my screen lock. That or they finally did some patching that helped. I shut this off. Combined with other high horsepower apps like waze and Google drive and Bluetooth and pandora it was placing my phone into screen lock and fouling up access to unlocking it. There were times the easiest way back in was to reboot the phone. 018bce5418dff693b1b32db29f9b14d2.jpg

Got an update on the GS7E yesterday. Anyone know what it was for? Security, I imagine. But I had also been experiencing severe screen mirroring issues with my 2016 55 inch Samsung TV. After yesterday's update, my screen mirroring function appears to be working just fine. For reference, my boyfriend's gs8+ NEVER had issues with the screen mirror feature and he did not receive the same update.

The newest update ends in QF3. You can look in this thread when it came out, but I think it was around the beginning of the month. There haven't been any updates since then to my knowledge.

Yep. Sure enough. I just checked my software version and it ends in "qf3." For whatever reason, however, it only just hit my phone the day I made that post.

Looks like just a security update (July 1st). Still no calling plus, unfortunately.

Ok I'm pretty careful with my phone. But can someone tell me what they think this is. 3f5f40a6219854592f236418db68efdd.jpg

I sure hope so. I would love to try it and then use it if it works well. I have two phones (one personal and one for work), so I can always use the other phone if I need to look something up while on a call, but I think it will be much more convenient to have calling plus enabled.

Based on how small it was likely just a security update.

I was hoping the security update included calling plus.

Oh well, maybe next month or in a few weeks.

Anyone know if we are slated to actually receive calling plus at some point on the GS7E? Or are we just screaming into the dark?

Yeah, it is. Less people have this phone now as it is getting slightly long in the tooth for the tech savvy and the "gotta-have-it" millenials. I still dig my S7E though but i do want to try out calling plus if we do ever get it.

My 18 month old S7 has officially bit the dust. Local repair shop says the main board is toast. Sprint techs telling me the same thing. No drops or water ... just quit working all of a sudden. Interesting that the report I got is that the display flex was creased and nearly severed.

Samsung is really pushing the boundaries of squeezing stuff into these geometries. I think I'm done with Galaxy devices.

Looking at the Pixel 2. Smaller battery than the S8, but maybe that means it's cutting fewer corners on the mechanical side of the design shop.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

18 months for a well cared for smartphone is not good.  These days I have been keeping my devices 20-24 months.  Thanks for the report.  It will keep me from buying a used S7 for my kids down the line.

    • I don't even know where to start. Price is immaterial at this point. You can own 99 percent of all the shares in a company and if those shares are nonvoting you have no say in how the company runs. As I have been saying forever the issue was never about price it was about the shares being voting or nonvoting. The Reuters article confirms that was and remains the issue. What has changed is that there are several clocks are now ticking and time is not on Tmobile's side. This is why talks are occurring again. Either Son believes he now has a better advantage or Tmobile realizes that they don't have the spectrum or the physical network to really make a run of 5G.

Remember only Sprint is talking about a mobile 5G network. The other 3 are talking about hotspots and Fixed wireless 5G. The public in general doesn't understand this. This also realigns the market. For 5G At&t and Verizon will be competing in the marketplace with wireline operators. Notice that as those two have been selling off wireline assets, they have been selling them to companies like Frontier, who couldn't ever compete with fixed wireless 5G. Tmobile would also be entering this same market and they are missing one huge advantage all three of the others have. Tier one internet backbones. They also don't have the spectrum to build a 5G mobile network.

Stop and think about the position that leaves Tmobile in. Reliant on one side on the same companies they are competing against. And unable to provide actual 5G speeds in the mobile market.

They would have to be stoned or stupid not to give Son the one thing he asked for. Voting rights.

So is price the issue? No. It is an all stock deal and it doesn't matter what exchange price is set if the stock awarded is nonvoting. He would have to have faith in the germans to run the company properly or say goodbye to all of the money spent into Sprint.

    • Didn't Sprint use a small part of their spectrum licenses for a leaseback deal? I believe the last reports had 14% of their spectrum being leased back to them, but that number could have grown since then due to Sprint's desire to raise money. I'm don't know if this impacted Softbank's negotiating leverage, but I'm sure it was brought up.
    • Son not gonna give up that treasure trove of 2.5 spectrum for cheap, $12 per share minimum.  Gonna love my May 2018 calls!  Cha-ching!
    • PRLs do not affect LTE connectivity — they are only for CDMA. What you are observing must be a coincidence. As Sprint and Open Mobile are still integrating their networks, Band 13 will probably come and go quite a few more times before you’ll be able to properly connect to it.  It’s hard to say. Although I may be wrong, I think that if the merger does goes through (which it may or may not), it will go through everywhere.
    • Update: Did a PRL update (55069) and sightings of B13 using Signal Check Pro are less frequent know in my area. Before this latest PRL, I was able to see between 2-3 B13 signals everyday for the entire time that I had the app open but not anymore. There is a B13 in my area at -98 dBm that's constantly disappearing from Signal Check Pro. As for roaming charges when I was using Open Mobile, there are none and the roaming data allotment stills at zero. Two question for thought... If Sprint and T-Mobile merge, what could be the implications for PRWireless in Puerto Rico (Joint company between Sprint and Open Mobile)? Would the DOJ step in to prevent a 3 carrier merge in PR? Or would it go thru making a super telecom company in PR? Or maybe the DOJ allows the merge in the USA but not in PR... Lastly, could the rollout of Sprint VoLTE be affected in PR do to Open Mobile's equipment?
