Sprint needs to spend 2018 chasing down areas where there is no ability to use data while on a Sprint device.  This can be due to no service areas or saturated data connections on Sprint's or their roaming partner's networks.  The "can you hear me now" guy should change into the "can you use data everywhere you go" guy.   I am not concerned if the coverage is Sprint's or extended LTE roaming as long as it has a reasonable speed to use VoLTE and use the apps that I use on my phone.

I believe Verizon's focus for years with improving their network was first targeting voice coverage and after that targeting any area of the country where their customers were getting less than 1mbps download speed.  They may have since increased that 1mbps threshold to something higher and are now focused on small cells to fix coverage issues deep within buildings and between their macro sites.

I'd hope by 2020 our phones will be primarily using VoLTE for voice supported by USCC/AT&T LTE roaming. I rarely use VZW 1x anymore unless I'm in very certain spots.

If they did that they could pass att on LTE as att doesn't have plans to add LTE to H+ areas.

They don't? That's exactly what they're doing...

Especially with the upcoming FirstNet build.

Right now they are prioritizing LTE upgrades on towers that are still WCDMA only. Until that is done, they are putting HSPA-capable towers on the back burner.

https://www.fiercewireless.com/tech/sprint-hints-at-6-gbps-peak-speeds-over-lte-network

Quote

Today, Ottendorfer said Sprint makes use of roughly 60 MHz of spectrum with 2x2 MIMO and 64 QAM across three sectors. He noted that Sprint has already tweaked several of those figures in order to reach LTE speeds approaching 1 Gbps. And in Sprint’s LTE network evolution Ottendorfer said the carrier can potentially—partly through the application of its massive trove of 2.5 GHz spectrum holdings—increase those figures to 120 MHz, 64x64 MIMO (16 layers per sector carrier) and 256 QAM to reach theoretical peak speeds of up to 6 Gbps

That's insanity, even theoretically. Will be interesting to see if they can even get anywhere near that.

With those speeds, my edges and head will be scalped bald, follicles gone along with any other hair on my face.

6Gbps is insanely fast. This is good to know the true potential of their spectrum.

I'd rather improved coverage over 6Gbps, I'm fine with 100+Mbps on LTE as is it's just coverage that needs improvement.

Either way this victimization culture is nauseating, at best.  Flippin millenials!

Sorry, no. The whole blaming of millenials has got to stop. I'm so tired of getting blamed for everything because of my age. When in fact the real problem is those who we were raised by. We "learned from the best!"

We have the issues we have because we blame the young people for everything, while in reality - not everyone - the majority bust our butts to make our lives and everyones lives better.

Um, calm down.  I was mostly just having a little fun. Cool your jets, ace. I'm pretty much a millennial, too  (just a few years removed).

Why do you want it so badly?  The downlink rarely will possess the SINR to use 256QAM.

I just know on T-Moble it really helped network reliability and speed. Also I think they should work on multiple band CA between 800 and 1900 then keep the B41 CA how it is...

One other thing... doesn't it make the cell spectrum more efficient and increase capacity overall ?

What's the bandwidth of a fiber connection going to a typical site? Or does it completely vary based on location/population?

(Are we talking 1Gbps links, 10Gbps, etc?)

You "know" that 256QAM helped both reliability and speed on T-Mobile?  How?

Reliability, it did not, just the opposite.

I just know from my data speed testing before and after it was implemented... I guess that might be a narrow view
