From looking at various threads on this forum it looks like Sprint is kicking their network upgrades into high gear. It seems like most of the upgrades are software upgrades which explains the low Capex like the Sprint executives talked about. I have seen some new 8t8r equipment being installed in the Jacksonville Florida market on sites in high traffic areas that's not covered by the old Clearwire dual mode equipment.

Patiently waiting for Gainesville to at least get 10x10. B41 love would be icing on the cake.

As soon as you go towards the Jacksonville Market in general its only 5x5. It's very clear that the Orlando market is significantly hirgher on priority.

Yeah, we can definitely agree on that. Orlando market and south are pretty good for the most part. It's just north of Orlando that's just not where it should be. It's just crazy that the Jacksonville market isn't getting much love. Jacksonville is Florida's largest city...land per square mile and population wise.

Sprint is not sleeping on the job like some of us have thought at least. Software updates, mini macros and small cells must be saving Sprint a pretty penny. The more sites with band 41 now the less money they have to spend on the network later. HPUE, B25 and B41 MIMO will also help with speeds and capacity without Sprint having to do much. I can see Sprints speeds dramatically increasing by the end of the year.

For sure. What are Sprint's spectrum holdings in Jacksonville, out of curiosity?

Same as Orlando. Thats what's baffling about Jacksonville's deployment.

Hmm. I would email my area president if I were you. Mine has been enormously helpful, receptive and reactive to my communications.

Yet Jacksonville 15x15 is possible yet doesn't have even 10x10.

Yeah we really need to get in touch the the president of the Florida market. Its like he never goes to the Jax market so he doesn't care or something.

Psst... I think this is starting to veer towards market specific stuff that is better posted in the market thread for florida.

Sprint can't continue this stuff off being the only carrier with only 5x5 in areas while everyone else is as high as 20x20. Yes the other 3 have 5x5 bands but, not like Sprint. That's why B41 is needed and, 10x10 15x15 where possible.

Wait. Ok. I agree that Jacksonville should have better coverage. But you are ignoring one exceedingly important fact. The Jacksonville metro area is far smaller than the Miami or Tampa metro areas. And substantially smaller than Orlando's. City proper population and metro population are two wildly divergent figures. For example, the population of Louisville is nearing 800,000. The pipuyof Atlanta is nearing 500,000. However, the Louisville metro population is around 1.2 million while Atlanta's is nearing 6 million. Who's more important in your financial (ROI) book? Yeah, Jax is definitely far behind Miami and Tampa and a bit behind Orlando in that regard. Metro areas. Not the city proper alone.

I'll leave it at this since it belongs in a Florida market thread. Sprints B41 reach in the Orlando market goes far beyond the city limits of Orlando while Jacksonville does not. I drove down 441 all the way to Orlando and caught 15x15 b25 on 60-70% of the sites starting from lady lake which is 50 miles away from Orlando to cities way smaller in population and metro than Gainesville, Ocala, St Augstine, Jacksonville in the Orlando market had b41 on most towers even 8t8r equipped. In comparison Jacksonville in the city limits alone is at best 40% complete and neighboring cities have nothing. It is my conclusion that they are giving Orlando market as a whole including further cities are getting attention just because it is apart of the Orlando market and not because Orlando pop or metro.

I'm really interested in your results since you're in Granville.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
