All of our mapping - - gone forever! ???????

We get to start all over again... yay....

Denser areas with actual tower sites (vs buildings) will probably not change all that much since many are already co-located. Definitely going to be a transition though.

When you compare the Rootmetrics App “Fastest Speed Found” Map Layer for T-Mobile vs Sprint, it’s clear that more people have been mapping speeds on T-Mobile than Sprint.

This is something I definitely noticed when I would map speeds around DC using the Rootmetrics App. I was amazed at how much more of the “Fastest Speed Found” Map Layer was done by T-Mobile users than by Sprint users.

Perhaps this applies to other Map apps such as OpenSignal and Sensorly as well.

So maybe there’s not as much to Map as we think as far as the Apps go given the enthusiasm that T-Mobile users seem to have for it.

As far as a site map, perhaps we are starting over to a limited extent.

Marcelo's job as CEO is done. Now just need a figure head to manage the merger.

Is any of this accredited to the free year of service promo?

Massive incentive to gain subscribers while incurring zero cash expenses

As of last check the free year service promo was about 1% of adds.

They do 0 advertising, 0 promotion, and 0 in store work on it so it's primarily limited to the techy folks with the know how.

Perhaps, but it probably isn't much. Historically they've said it accounts for <1% of new adds. Additionally increased operating Income, and positive net income for the first time in 11 years would point towards it not being a significant impact.

That's right. Marcelo shared some stats on it here:

Separately, some of you have written about our recent BYOD trial offering a free year of service, and what impact this would have on the quarter. This offer represented 1% of our postpaid phone gross additions in the quarter, which was in line with our expectation, and has provided good insights into digital sales and marketing. This offer test a complete end-to-end digital acquisition model that could materially lower sales costs, if capable of scaling to a significant volume. Also, this represent a different approach to the high cost of subscriber acquisition in our industry.

There is some discrepancy. On page 16 of the presentation, The Adjusted Fare Cash flow is given as -$240M.

Marcelo just confirmed that Capex guidance will continue as planned. No cut backs due to merger.

Well that’s nice to hear. Working on Plan B in case A falls through. Let’s just hope that statement with still working on the network with the stated amount isn’t just bluff. I guess next quarter after this quarter is up we will see how much they’ve spent thus far and if they lower spending.

Maybe someone already posted this but..

Wooow!

Marcelo just got a nice promotion! Now COO of SoftBank.

Congrats to him! Looks like he will continue to be a big part of the new S+Tmobile behind the scenes.

Yeah with merger approval prospects 50/50 at best each company needs to continue operating as if the merger isn't going to go through to an extent. An analyst tried to address the following on the call, but Marcelo didn't really give a great answer and it didn't come up on T-Mobile's earnings call at all...

The question to ask Neville Ray or John Legere and even to an extent Marcelo, Combes, and Saw is ok you guys have indentified approximately 35,000 sites between the two networks that would be decommissioned under a merger, how solid is that estimate? Have you actually started to go through and identify specific sites or are we just talking general estimates right now? Because if they've reached the specific site stage (and it is possible that they have especially on T-Mobile's side as part of their due diligence) does Sprint have T-Mobile's list? With T-Mobile spending $4.9 to $5.3 billion and Sprint spending $5 to $6 billion this year, ideally (again especially of you are T-Mobile) you'd find a way to have that money spent intelligently.

Sprint surpasses ATT's average national speeds according to SpeedSmart..

Quote from results..

" Sprint has continued to make gains in download speed this month to become the 3rd fastest in the US, will be interesting to see if that continues over the next few months. "

What is wrong with Sprint why is it so slow?

Nothing, that is by design, B41 is designated for faster download so upload speeds are limited to about 9mb.

Can't they design it to be faster for uploads as well?

    • My s24 Ultras auto updated to April 1 security patch over night. Not on wi-fi.  Play system remains at March 1. No notice that update occurred on screen.
    • Got the latest update. On my S24 ultra the NR-ARFCN display remains constant (which is inaccurate according to diags) while n41 and 38 toggle back and forth.  I updated then rebooted before testing. Two sims active. My security patch level updated automatically to April 1 before this update. Diags sent while n38 was displaying.
    • Was able to install the March 1 Android security patch. Seems slightly more accurate with 5g ca band id, but can not swear by it. Updated google play system update through the software information screen to March 1. *#73# still works. Froze updates waiting on SCP update beta to fix n41 showing as n38.
    • Just installed it. Thanks for the info.  71 mb mar 1st date.
    • There's a permit for a new 47 story building at 205 Montague St in Downtown Brooklyn. The problem is that  T-Mobile eNB 48352 is on the building next door and this new building will block two out of 3 sectors of the site. For reference, the new building will be roughly as tall as 16 Court St which is right across the street. This site is the primary site covering Cadman Plaza so I wonder what the plan is. Will they just try to change sector placement, move to a different building, or will this just speed up the conversion of the Sprint site at 25 Monroe Place?
