Different crews, backup upgrades, waiting for detailed setup instructions from fit testing which is now complete.

sorry if this has been asked but i was reading another topic and skimmed across an entry. Is it true that an 8t8r panel has double the capacity with a single 20mhz channel?

Basically yes due to the fact a 20 mhz TDD-LTE carrier in Sprints configuration will top out at 80-90 mbps whereas Sprints 5x5 mhz FDD-LTE carrier tops out at ~37 mbps in the best of conditions.

In size/weight-constrained spots (namely stealth sites), Sprint is actually ripping out original NV equipment and installing these new antennas, the CommScope DHHTT65B-3XR, with an RRUS 31 B25 and an NSN RRH alongside the original RRUS 11 B26.

More than expected? No, Band 41 is still expected to be added to the vast majority of Sprint sites.

San Francisco is full of them and there's a few in my market, a few in Phoenix, and a few elsewhere too. 

 

They relocate the 800 RRU to a ground mount setup sometimes.

So these same antennas are being used in different markets? 

 

How many Band 41 carriers are they capable of?

4x 2.5 rf ports = 3 carriers max unless they they have a RF Combiner for 2.6 then they can do 6 carriers as per a typical 8T8R setup by combining the 8x 2.5 jumpers from RRU to a combiner that outputs 4. A combiner does have some drawbacks in terms of signal loss though.

I could see these used in some GMO conversions as well, especially lattice/truss sites. Wood utility poles seem to be able to handle the full weight of a regular 800 1900 2500 LTE setup for at least two sectors based on observations (at least so far).

There are recent permits in Ericsson land.

 

They relocate the 800 RRU to a ground mount setup.

please correct me if im wrong. 8t8r is basically 8x8 mimo but no device can take advantage of that high order at the moment. so basically it splits it the antennas in half for 2 4x4 or 4x2?

Yes. They're running it in 4x2 MIMO configuration.

I noticed a tower being upgraded near me and I would assume it is for B41.  The tower currently has B25/26 on it.  However, I am not 100% sure this is a Clearwire/Sprint upgrade.  Based on this forum, the B41 antennas are supposed to be smaller than the Sprint B25/26 antenna, however, from the link below the Clearwire B41 antenna are a little longer.  The circles in red are the new antenna, and the circle in green are the Sprint B25/26 antenna.  Are the one's in red Clearwire B41, or are they for another carrier?

The antenna on the far right looks like it has a Nokia RRU right behind it, judging by that I'd say that is a Sprint B41 install.

Those appear to be 8t8r antennas, not Clearwire.

      I know it is a bit early, but since there have been some pretty strong rumors already regarding this device, I figured I'd start a thread for it, just as I did for the LG V20.
       
      I had the LG V20 for a short time last year, and while I anxiously awaited several months for the smartphone, I only had it for a short amount of time after purchasing it when it became available. While I really liked the device for most of its features, one glaring issue I noticed on the few units I tried, was some bad grey uniformity of its LCD screen. Some people didn't notice this issue on theirs, while others did, including me.
       
      That seems to be changing this year though, with the LG V30 heavily rumored to be featuring an OLED screen. As this will be LG manufacturing the OLED screens, rather than Samsung, its quite likely not to be the Pentile variety. The only reason I prefer LCD to OLED, is in my dislike only for the Pentile variety of OLED that has been present on a majority of OLED smartphone displays.
       
      Not having Pentile means I finally will be able to say I prefer OLED to LCD. All except for the image retention and burn-in risks I've been reading may soon become a thing of the past, at least in regards to LG's OLED technology. Personally, despite the investment Samsung has made in AMOLED, I believe there is a possibility Samsung may end up switching to QLED for smartphone displays once they become the emissive-style technology, without the LCD panel involved.
       
      In the meantime, it'll be interesting to pay attention regarding the LG OLED vs Samsung AMOLED feud in smartphones coming up later this year. Oh, and besides the LG V30 showcasing OLED in a single display format, rumors are there will be two OLED displays involved. One for the main screen, and another for the quick launch controls. I'll make another post in this thread with links here soon.

      The 850 MHz LTE Sprint network is so congested in De Soto MO. I also have proof on my SDR Radio.
       My SDR Radio can only show 1.920 MHz of the 5 MHz wide LTE Signal.

      I notice a lot of post regarding the markets in IL,FL,TX,PA,NYC.... but how about about the Los Angeles market? I THINK it was samsung doing the set up for the L.A market? Not sure though.... I'm not a sponsor member of the site so I can't really check... if I had a job I'd most definitely donate!
       
      Couple of months ago the local towers were all down and being upgraded to NV I assume since Larry from Howard forums said there was NV work being done my zip code. The speeds were better for a bit but now they are awful again.
       
      Can anyone (most preferred Robert) make a comment on if there is any LTE activity near 90255 area code?

    • It would be pretty consistent with what was reported last week that a merger announcement is still likely imminent, but wasn't going to be ready by earnings as previously hoped by both parties.
