David Mackler
David, thanx for the update; here in the Las Vegas/Henderson area we have limited LTE as well and I use my Tri-Fi daily with Wimax (getting a 55-60 dBm signal in the house consistently); may I ask why you gave up your tri-fi if your area is still weak with LTE as mine is? Good question. Reception at home is more of consistent baseline for reference. I have wired broadband with no (at least for now) usage caps so mostly carry the Zing (and Tri-Fi and Overdrive and USB sticks before that) in my briefcase. The other piece was the Tri-Fi only worked on the 1900 band, so I couldn't tell what was operational on the other two bands, so I took a risk that I would have decent LTE coverage. I could always swap back to the Tri-Fi (simple call to swap ESNs), but frankly one day is not enough to make that call.
autoprime
Has no one found a suitable antenna to use with the Zing? Has anyone looked into hacking this thing? Getting it connected via diag mode to QPST/QXDM... writing PRLs etc? Got my hands on one of these and I'd like to unlock the SIM slot. No diag port though has to be hiding somewhere... twospirits
I currently have a dock for my Tri-Fi unit and do plan on getting the Netgear Zing but nowhere is the dock for it available, not at Sprint nor Netgear, nada, zip. aarrgghh [rant mode: ON] Why do these manufacturers and carriers continue to offer products and either do not have the accessories for it available or none at all. [Rant mode: OFF] Seems they show it off at their facebook page. TS

DaQue
I am into amateur radio and this setup is interesting. I wonder what sort of wideband antenna would exist to even be usable over the 800/1900/2500 bands. I would venture to say such an antenna with these wide ranges wouldn't be very effective at all and maintain SWR. I see it has two antenna ports - perhaps one is for the 800 band and the other one is for the 1900/2500 band?Try a disc cone... 73 de WC0H Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk

twospirits
i plan on getting it, but side note, the docks are still huge. The device has gotten slender yet the dock is still the size of Godzilla. TS
Rawvega
The dock is available on Sprint.com. I'll probably be ordering one for myself tomorrow. http://shop.sprint.com/mysprint/shop/accessory/ao_details.jsp?accSKU=75500295&accCatId=acc9002cat

KD8JBF
So can anyone attest to being able to get the MSL Code to view the advanced settings in the Zing whilst in a contract? I would like to prioritize my Bands as well!
Rawvega
I just called Sprint up and asked the rep for it. They asked why I needed it and I told the rep and they obliged. If a rep won't give it to you for some inane reason, just hang up and call back or make up some story about how the device isn't connecting properly and you need to reprogram it and they should give you the MSL for that.Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk

KD8JBF
Ok All, I got the unlock code, is there a way to view all frequencies available (that it sees) with the Netgear Zing? Either via the Netgear Manager on the iPad or web admin console? I don't have a sprint phone yet (Waiting for the LG G2...YEAH TRI-BAND LTE!) Kris Not that I know of and that would be a good feature to have. You should suggest that to Netgear. I set the default band 25 as the last priority and Band 26 first with band 41 as the middle priority. It's been a moot point as all there is here is some Band 25 LTE. However, if and when I see a dramatic shift in coverage or speed I'll be ready to check and see if I'm picking up Band 26 or Band 41. I'm most excited to see the 800MHz LTE when it rolls out. Especially with building penetration compared to the 1900 let alone 2600 frequencies. Will definitely have to recommend that to Netgear...would be a useful feature! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free

Rawvega
You're welcome! My very unscientific observations indicate that the dock gives my Zing up to @ -10 dBm improvement. Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 4
palsgrove
I see people posting that they are frustrated by Sprint requirements to sign up for 2 year contracts to get onto their network. May I suggest checking into a company a friend suggested to me. Check out the BYOD Plan on the URL: http://millenicom.com/plans/ I was looking for information on devices to use with this plan when I found this website. I have not yet purchased a device (leaning toward the Netgear Zing) and started using the service so I cannot vouch for it. My friend uses the $69.99 Hotspot plan which uses the Verizon network. I was told by the salesman that the BYOD plan uses the Sprint network and allows up to 50 Gb/month for $79.99. To quote the page: BYOD PlanBring Your Own Device Unlimited data 3G, 4G, LTE The Millenicom BYOD mobile broadband account is a no contract service that allows for nationwide coverage using the clients own mobile broadband device. There is a one-time set up fee of $49.99 to activate the account. The BYOD service is for personal and family use and is not to be used for commercial purposes or as a public WiFi or broadcast to multi-dwelling units or any other extraordinary circumstance. Usage over 50 gigabytes in one month will alert our investigative team. Devices usable with this plan: Customer must own a non-active mobile broadband device of the appropriate upstream carrier (email service@millenicom.com for clarification). We highly recommend you contact us before signing up for this type of account to ensure your device is compatible. May I suggest checking into a company a friend suggested to me. Check out the BYOD Plan on the URL: http://millenicom.com/plans/ ... I hope this info is helpful to someone I just received this by email this evening: Dear XXX, Sprint has discontinued service to our gateway provider, unfortunately that means we can no longer provide the Unlimited or BYOD Plan to you. We anticipate your plan to be discontinued by Sprint by the end of this month. We can offer a couple options for you available through October 31, 2013. 1. Continue your service through the BMI.net Unlimited/BYOD Plan. They have agreed to honor your service through the end of this month at no charge with an ongoing monthly service fee of $79.99. 2. Switch your service to the Millenicom 20GB Hotspot Plan. We will provide a Novatel MiFi 4620LE with activation and shipping free of charge. What now? Any ideas on where mobile broadband is going would be appreciated.
KD8JBF
Ok all...so question here....or maybe scenario.... I would like to set my Netgear Zing up in my vehicle. I would like to permanently mount an antenna on it that I could hook up to it easily an disconnect easily. I basically want to be a rolling hotspot. Now I found this antenna... http://www.wpsantennas.com/PCTMBPTSM-RPSM-PCTEL-Multi-Band-Cell-PCS-WiFi-Permanent-Mount-Multi-Band-1.aspx Doesn't have the right connectors, but I can adapt that no problem. The antenna gives one feed for "voice" (low bands 800/1900) and one for data (wifi/WiMAX) and a GPS connection. Which antenna ports on the zing would I hook this to? Or am I just SOL on my dream of an external vehicle antenna? Any help or insight is appreciated....thanks!, Kris

I see some on Amazon Side note, I took apart my previous Sierra Hotspot dock and attached the antennas connectors to the Zing and the signal got about -10 dBm improvement. So I just ordered the official dock for work, but I can't see myself getting a second one to put it in the car. TS
