So when they get the 800 signal up and running on the sprint network will the tower placement mess with the signal? Because 800 has a much larger range im thinking that the signal will overlap. I this even a problem? Or are they going to pick and choose which tower gets 800 to avoid overlap as much as possible.

I am quite impressed by the bidding already.  From the auction proceeds and the daily sponsorship the past several weeks, the countdown clock has been the most profitable aspect of the Nextel iDEN net

All towers get 800. Their configurations are unknown but possibly has antenna downtilt set a bit further than the PCS signal but not that much further that is causes problems.

Sprint is deploying 800MHz voice now in about 2-3 dozen markets. Some of these have started noticing 800 voice going love, or will very shortly. 800MHz travels farther and penetrates much better. The remaining markets will start 800 voice deployment this summer. It will take another 6-9 months to complete 800 voice implementation nationwide,

 

 

 

Starting this summer, Sprint will also start deploying LTE on 800MHz. LTE 800 will greatly improve Sprint LTE coverage. Especially in between cell site gaps and indoor coverage. It is estimated it will take a year to complete LTE 800 coverage.

Did I miss something I thought Sprint wasn't going to start LTE 800 deployment until Q4. I know that's when we can expect to mobile phone devices supporting that band. But it does make sense for them to start from now.

Sprint is beginning LTE 800 deployment now. Some will start coming live in the end of July/August timeframe. I'm told the first ones will be in the South Bend area. But the deployment plan is rapidly evolving.

And there's the reason for the independent remote ACU's on each section of the antenna.

this must be fixed! Now that my day has passed.... No daylight savings time on my watch!

Sprint is headquartered in Overland Park, KS.  Central Time should be the baseline for all Sprint actions.  Viva CST/CDT!

The old iDEN network does not have the backhaul even remotely approaching what is needed for LTE.  You can bet that each iDEN site is still operating over just a few T1s.

Not sure about all the areas but I know a lot of Nextel sites around here were on leased towers so they will be remaining intact otherwise the other carriers might get kind of pissed.

Same in Michigan, there are only a few naked towers out there...

Can you get some tower pictures?

Judging by the Sprint coverage map, it's the tower in Marinette.... just barely in Wisconsin. But they do show the coverage in Menominee.

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.

      Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
