Network Vision/LTE - Las Vegas Market

Well so far it's been a mixed experience here in Vegas with Sprint. There is LTE coverage on the strip. But once you go into a casino floor it changes to 3G. 

So far I have been in Treasure Island, Venetian, Palazzo & Sands Expo. I do get LTE at Sands Expo but once I go into a conference room it changes to 3G.

That's a huge improvement over last year. Only a handful of DAS sites in casinos have been upgraded to LTE so far. It is happening though. There were zero this time last year. Fortunately most 3G DAS work well.

As times go on I believe it will get better. Even with 3G sometimes it's not a very strong signal in the Casino. In Sands Expo I get strong 3G.

Currently Band 25, but in the future Band 26 and eventually there will be Band 41 equipment.

I'll try to post some pics later, but my overall experience was great! B41 greeted me when I landed and was with me anytime I was outdoors or inside a building not located in the strip. The Imperial Pala...err....the Qua....err I mean The Link has several panels on the roof of its casino floor beaming towards the strip. I had B41 go as far up as -62 RSRP when standing right outside of The Mirage's garden (clear LOS of course). I'll post a picture later (if permitted?) of the towers. Speeds weren't great (15 Mbps), but I've never seen B41 with this great of a signal anywhere in Houston, even when standing next to a Clearwire tower with a clear line of sight.

 

LTE is only available inside the casino floors of some MGM resorts, so I'm assuming its a work in progress. Ceasers Entertainment Resorts have yet to see LTE in any of their casinos. Old Vegas is still a dump and a dead spot inside many of their casinos (not surprised). I got hosed money wise and signal wise there.

 

As far as inside the room, LTE 25 worked pretty well inside my entire room (it faced the airport, so that's why). B41 worked only near my window (~15 feet). Voice was fine for the most part. Texts were also fine unless a buddy of mine messaged me from his T-Mobile phone (maybe it was a nationwide issue since his messages were coming in late ever since a day before our trip)

 

Overall, huge improvement. While waiting to take off, a buddy of mine sat on 3G on his Verizon iPhone 6 while mine was on Band 41. This basically summed up the entire trip for me. Can't wait for 8T8R radios to replace the local Clearwire equipment. I'll see you again in a year Vegas!

First of all, sorry for the large pic, but if I shrink it, then you won't be able to see the panels on top of The Linq. Notice the small tower on the foreground. Anyone know what exactly this is? It looks like a small cell tower intended to cover the immediate area only, but for which provider? This was at the corner of The Mirage and The Shops at Caesar's

Most DAS systems can support B25 and B26 out of the box. NYC Transit is running both bands in the subways here in New York City.

Re-banding issues with San Bernardino County. Hopefully that'll be wrapped up in August and Band 26 deployment will commence quickly after that.

No sites are accepted for b26 at all in lv or socal.

No it doesn't (assuming you are talking about Las Vegas). But yes, as soon as the San Bernardino County issue is resolved sites will start going live assuming equipment has been installed, and if it hasn't, installing it will be a high priority.

I think you may be confusing B26 (LTE 800) and CDMA 800 which is just 1xRTT. Sprint is able to run one channel of 1x on SMR 800 Band in the Vegas Market. But not LTE 800 until SB County clears out of the way.

Reporting back after 3 days in Vegas, attended EDC at Las Vegas Speedway Center, service was reliable falling back to 3G with a few hiccups, data would dissappear for a few seconds and then reconnect, was able to send facebook messages to friends, upload a pic and check instagram.  Texting and calling had no issues at all. 

 

Noticed that the speedway has Sprint Ads in a few spots of the track and a lit up Sprint sign in one of the buildings. Anyone know of repeaters or DAS in the venue ?

 

Stayed at excalibur on the 7th floor, was parked on 4G at all times surfing the web with no issues.  Battery life of my Moto X seems to last longer in Vegas than when Im in Orange county and Inland Empire.

Well I was slightly out of it. I meant to say Band 41 2600 MHz. The map shows many sites accepted but not live. 

 

I'll blame it on the EDC hangover also. 

 

@nexuss4g - I saw a DAS out front of one of the main gates. I didn't look for equipment inside the track. Did you have reliable service at the track? T-Mobile didn't, AT&T didn't, and Verizon was spotty most of the time. My Sprint hotspot wasn't charged up so I didn't get to check Sprint out.
