Sprint 4G Rollout Updates

Tuesday, October 16, 2012 - 7:00 AM MDT

Four Sprint markets that were slated to begin Network Vision/LTE deployments in 2013 are beginning early. Good news for Sprint customers in the East Kentucky, Upstate New York East, North LA and Vermont/New Hampshire/Maine Sprint markets.

S4GRU has been able to confirm that Network Vision is now under way in these blessed locations. Three of these markets are being deployed by Alcatel Lucent (Upstate NY East, North LA & VT/NH/ME) and the East Kentucky market is being deployed by Ericsson. In fact, AlcaLu already has completed 3G upgrades in a small handful of sites in these markets, with 4G yet to come. Ericsson is just now beginning in the East Kentucky market and do not quite have any sites complete yet.

We currently do not have detailed schedules for these markets, so we will not be able to offer projected launch dates or completion dates at this time. However, near some of the first to be converted sites, Sprint customers will start to see improved 3G speeds and possibly even some prelaunch LTE signals.

You can join us here at S4GRU and track these depoyments. We have a thread we titled the Network Vision Deployment Running List where you can see a summary of all the Sprint markets currently under deployment. Additionally, we offer even more info where we track the completed sites to date on Interactive Maps in our Sponsor section. Information about sponsorship can be found here: S4GRU Sponsorship

Sweet! Here i thought out little section of the country (Maine) would be last. Cant wait to see what happens in the coming months. I am surprised they are starting now with winter right on our door step. cant be to much fun working on these towers with the harsh winters.

Check out the first site in Maine. Go to the Alcatel Lucent map: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/517-nv-sites-complete/

Robert, is there a reason why Upstate NY East wasn't added to the running list thread with the other three markets in this article?

Yep, saw that the other day and was trying to make it over there yesterday to try it but couldnt. Even though it is tagged as 3G only I am hoping they have made further progress. That tower also services a good part of the snooty rich tourists that come here for there vacation homes on the water....although they are all gone home for the year more or less. Will try to get down there soon.

I wonder why they are working on 3rd round before starting around half or more of 2nd round. MN was supposed to have first sites apparently in October but I haven't seen or heard anything at all yet. These terrible 3G speeds are wearing so thin on me right now...

Yeah, that part doesn't make much sense to me, either. If a market in the 3rd round starts before a market in the 2nd round, then was the 2nd round market ever really in the 2nd round? What's the point in even creating rounds if they aren't going to be followed? Must have something to do with available crews or something.

I really hope deployment of Eastern Kentucky:Lexington isn't ahead of Western Kentucky:Louisville. Louisville and surrounding areas are way more heavily populated.

Both markets are pretty small compared to other markets being worked on right now and so deployment should go fairly easily/quickly. It seems like preliminary work is going on in both markets so I would guess both markets will begin going live with LTE sites around the same time (even way before Sprint formally "launches" them).

I also live in Lexington, KY. Towers have been weird last 6 days near Fayette Mall. Tower went totally off for 4-5 hours one day, then came back on with 3G speeds of 1.8 megs down. Since it has slowed to about 1 meg down. Also one day I starting switching from 3G to roaming (I did have LTE enabled). Funky tower things have been going on, issues I have never experienced in this area. Could it be caused by Netowrk Vision??

There is a little variation how they are deployed on each site, and each vendors panels are slightly different. If you can take a pic and post it in our forums we can help you to identify them. Thanks.
