Sprint 4G Rollout Updates
Saturday, July 14, 2012 - 8:46 AM MDT

It's been quite a beehive of activity around the S4GRU forums as members proclaim that 4G icons are appearing live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, Houston, San Antonio and in isolated spots around the Austin market (most notably around Waco). 4G LTE is appearing in these markets.

I have now received confirmation from sources within Sprint, that they have indeed stopped blocking LTE connections in the DFW, Houston, San Antontio and Austin markets. LTE is now discoverable for Sprint LTE devices in these locations where LTE sites have been completed. Every fully configured and signed off LTE site in these markets is now live.

Currently, this leaves only th Atlanta market to be lit up of the July 15th announced cities. Our sources do not know when that is yet, but feel like it may even still be later today. There is a flurry of activity occurring. There have also been reports of some LTE sites appearing in the Chicago market by S4GRU members. But these are very scattered and inconsistent.

Please note that the live LTE sites in the Austin market is very limited. Mostly around Waco. But there are a very few isolated sites live in the Austin metro area. We are awaiting details on locations.

Live DFW LTE sites as of the last S4GRU update. There are more sites live at this time than what we are reporting. But more coverage will be added weekly.

So a little bit ago just to eliminate the "weak signal" possibility causing me to not connect to LTE on a live Sprint LTE tower, I pulled up right next to it. FAIL! no LTE connection at all. I have reset my phone, and toggled LTE on n off. NOTHING! As of 30 minutes ago, Sprint still says the towers all report to be up and running. I did take my phone in yesterday after work and they said its not my phone, nobody out here is having any luck and they went on to say that they cant get any straight answers to the issue either. Testing from Sugar Land, SW Houston, to Baytown and now back to SW Houston... 4G LTE continues to fail

There are no Kroger stores in Austin. They're in Houston, DFW, and Bryan/College Station.Someone else tweeted about testing LTE in Austin--I asked where in town, and he gave a San Antonio location (1604).

Yes, it turns out the Kroger report I had was actually in Atlanta. Sorry for any confusion.

I cannot speak to you all who are having connection problems to LTE. There are many of our members who are not having connection problems in these markets next to live sites.

As for a Sprint store ruling out no problems with the device, I don't think they can definitively say that unless they had a live LTE signal in their building that they can compare it to. They were just sending you on your way. You may indeed have a device issue.

Also, you guys need to tone down your comments. I am OK with you reporting what is going on in your area and what you are experiencing...both good and bad. But dramatic and sensational negative comments are a violation of our posting guidelines. Lets keep our comments constructive. Thank you.

This particular sprint store is near an lte tower that they say is up but none of their LTE phones connect. All I can speak for are the 2 towers sprint customer care supervisor stated that were LTE online. Im just very frustrated. It wouldnt be so bad to deal with if my 3G service wasnt having an issue. At work, we cant use the web for anything other than work so all streaming music etc must be done via our cell phones.

Where is the site location? I will look it up.

I tried the reported Austin tower on 35 and MLK. At that corner, there is no 4G, but 3G does jump to 1.5 - 1.7 Mbps. It has a very short range--if you go four blocks east to Comal or three blocks south to the Denny's at 16th, 3G drops back to under 500Kbps.

I was at 35/mlk today and didn't see any 4G. Thanks for the update jenni_b

I clicked the tower on the Site Map and the address actually shows 16th and 35 which is 3 blocks South of MLK and right across the highway from that Denny's so it's odd that the signal was worse there than at MLK and 35.

which site map? I dont really trust the link below, but its the best things since Im not a premier sponsor on here. https://network.sprint.com/TX/Austin/

Yeah, these maps at network.sprint.com only show sites getting maintenance 3G upgrades in a 6 month rolling schedule. It does not include anywhere near all of them. Jordan, you do have access to the Austin market map as a Sponsor where you can see all the Sprint sites in your market here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/577-network-vision-site-map-dfw-austin-and-west-texas/

Interested to see where the completed towers in the Austin metro area are, I still haven't seen any movement at the towers in north Austin.

During lunch yesterday I did a speedtest and results were much better than I have been seeing. However, around 3:30 I did the speedtest again and it was back to what I have been seeing. I work in far north Austin around Yager and IH 35.

Does anyone know that range of the LTE signal form the tower? Is there a map of the LTE towers that are on and still blocked? Is there a schedule of those towers being unblocked and or turned on?

Does anyone know that range of the LTE signal form the tower? Field analysis would be required to identify. Downtilt varies from site to site, and sector to sector within the same site.

Is there a map of the LTE towers that are on and still blocked? Supposedly no site is being blocked any longer in launched markets. Sites should be coming live now as they are completed. There are many blocked sites still though in unlaunched markets.

Is there a schedule of those towers being unblocked and or turned on? We have very detailed schedules in our Premier Sponsor sections of our site for the Round One and Round Two markets.
